CEREC

A crown is a ceramic restoration that is placed over a prepared tooth to restore its structure and function. Crowns may be fabricated in a single appointment using CEREC technology, or in some cases, sent to an Australian dental laboratory for off-site fabrication.

Single-Appointment Crowns

CEREC technology utilises computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD-CAM). Following digital scanning of the prepared tooth, a ceramic restoration may be milled onsite and fitted during the same visit, where clinically appropriate.

Suitability for same-day fabrication depends on individual clinical factors and will be discussed during consultation.

Potential Benefits of CEREC Technology

  • Digital impressions rather than traditional moulds
  • The possibility of completing treatment in a single visit, where appropriate
  • Reduced need for temporary restorations in suitable cases

Fit and Appearance

CEREC restorations are digitally designed to support accurate fit and function. Shade selection is undertaken to complement surrounding teeth, although outcomes may vary depending on individual circumstances.

Durability

Ceramic restorations are designed to withstand normal biting forces. The longevity of any crown depends on factors such as oral hygiene, bite forces, and regular dental maintenance.
