What to expect at your maintenance appointment
Examination
During your appointment, our dental practitioners will assess your teeth, gums, and oral tissues. This may include charting, clinical photographs, and radiographs where clinically indicated. Treatment recommendations are based on individual assessment.
Oral Tissue Screening
As part of routine care, we assess the soft tissues of the mouth, including the lips, cheeks, tongue, palate, and floor of the mouth. If any changes are identified, they may be monitored or referred for further assessment where appropriate.
X-rays
Radiographs or X-rays are a diagnostic tool used when clinically necessary to assist in identifying dental concerns that may not be visible during examination. Our practice uses modern digital imaging technology to support diagnostic assessment.
Scale and Polish
As part of your hygiene maintenance appointment, our dentist’s, dental hygienist or oral health therapist may remove any plaque, calculus, and surface staining. Gum health is assessed, and personalised oral hygiene advice may be provided to support ongoing oral health.
Fluoride treatment
During your check-up, fluoride applications may be recommended where appropriate. Fluoride can assist in strengthening enamel and supporting the prevention of dental decay as part of a broader oral health strategy.
Custom Mouthguards
Custom-fitted mouthguards may help reduce the risk of dental injury during contact sports. They are individually made following assessment to improve comfort and retention compared to over-the-counter options. Costs and health fund eligibility can be discussed during consultation.
