Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ)

Bruxism refers to clenching or grinding of the teeth. It may occur during the day or at night and may be either conscious or unconscious.

Over time, clenching (bruxism) can contribute to tooth wear, tooth sensitivity, jaw discomfort, and strain on the surrounding muscles and joints. In some cases, sleep-related bruxism may be associated with other health factors and may require assessment.

Possible Contributing Factors

Factors that may be associated with bruxism include:

  • Physical stress
  • Psychological stress or tension
  • Dental conditions
  • Bite alignment concerns
  • Certain medications or lifestyle factors

A comprehensive dental examination is required to determine appropriate management options.

If you are experiencing jaw discomfort, headaches, or concerns about teeth grinding, please inform your dental practitioner so an assessment can be arranged.
