Smile On Dentures

What Are Dentures?

Dentures are removable appliances used to replace one or more missing teeth.

They rest on the upper or lower jaw and are designed to restore function and appearance following tooth loss.

Our dentures are fabricated at Smile On Lab on the Central Coast using clinically appropriate materials. Treatment recommendations are based on individual assessment and patient needs.

Types of dentures:

Dentures are generally classified into three main types:

1. Complete Dentures:

Complete dentures are used when all teeth in either the upper or lower jaw are missing.

They may be:

Conventional Dentures
Placed after the remaining teeth have been removed and the tissues have healed. Healing times vary between individuals.

Immediate Dentures
Inserted at the time of tooth removal. As the gums and bone heal and change shape, adjustments or relining may be required.

2. Implant Retained Dentures:

Implant-retained dentures are supported by dental implants placed in the jaw.

Traditional complete dentures may have some movement, particularly in the lower jaw. In suitable cases, dental implants may be considered to improve denture stability.

Suitability for implant-retained dentures is determined following clinical examination and imaging.

3. Partial Dentures:

Partial dentures are used when some natural teeth remain. They consist of replacement teeth attached to a base material, often supported by a metal or acrylic framework.

Partial dentures help restore missing teeth and may assist in maintaining the position of remaining teeth.
