Use It or Lose It! -Make the most of your health fund dental extras

With the festive season fast approaching, we are getting very busy at our practice and we wanted to remind our valued patients about their health fund dental extras.

So, attention those with Health Funds!

If you do have extras insurance and you are due for a dental check-up or have any required dental treatments that you haven’t yet utilised, you should book in for an appointment as soon as you can.

Many private health funds in Australia reset their benefits after December 31 and unfortunately, any unused benefits then do not roll over to the next year.

What to expect at your check- up/clean at Bonnells Bay Dental

At Bonnells Bay Dental we strongly believe that prevention is better than cure which is why our experienced and caring Lake Macquarie dentists recommend regular dental check- ups.

Our check- up/cleans take between 45 minutes to 1 hour, we don’t rush the process and we take the time you need to get the most out of your consultation.

Our friendly and caring team at Bonnells Bay Dental take the time to get to know you and your smile personally.

Comprehensive assessment and Check -up:

During your visit we evaluate your teeth and gums, assess for cavities and gum disease and perform an oral cancer screen. We also check your medical history as your overall health and lifestyle can directly impact upon your oral health and vice versa.

We then customise an individual treatment plan for you providing evidence based and cost-effective options and solutions to suit your needs.

X-rays

Radiographs or X-rays are an important diagnostic tool that assist our oral health professionals in determining the presence of decay or gum disease. The technology that is used at our practice is considered low dose and produces 90% less radiation than traditional film X-rays.

Bonnells Bay Dental is one of the few local practices offering onsite OPG facilities to enable comprehensive 3D scanning of your entire mouth.

Clean and polish

Your session with our highly experienced oral health therapist includes thorough cleaning, measurement of pockets between gum and teeth and evaluation of any bone loss. This evaluation is critical to enabling us to detect any signs of disease early.

Our oral health therapist will then treat your gums and teeth. This will include removing plaque and calculus from your teeth, polishing your teeth, and applying fluoride. Fluoride application has been proven to lower your risk of developing decay.

At Bonnells Bay Dental we also use a machine called EMS Airflow to clean your teeth. The Airflow uses a mix of water, air, and a fine powder to gently and painlessly remove biofilm (plaque) and tartar from the surfaces of your teeth.

Oral Cancer Check

The prevalence of oral cancer has increased, and risk factors include tobacco smoking, age, alcohol consumption and sun exposure. During an oral cancer check, our trained oral health professionals will look for any signs of changes within the soft tissues such as your lips, cheeks, tongue, palate, and floor of the mouth. Any changes detected will be recorded and monitored. If healing has not occurred after two weeks, then further examination or referral will be given.

Hassle- free health cover claims

If you have private health cover, our HICAPS facility allows you to claim directly to your health fund, making claiming fast and hassle free.

However, we remind you that your policy is an agreement between you and your health fund. Please keep in mind that your insurance benefits may result in less coverage than you anticipated so it important to check with your health care fund before you come for your visit.

Rest assured that the fees we charge are the same whether you have private health cover. However, your policy may base its allowances on a fixed fee schedule, which may differ from our fees.

Don’t miss out on your health fund dental extras!

Book your dental check- up now and use what is yours, or you risk losing your benefits for 2020.
